THE IMPASSIBLE WALL
INTRODUCTION
Our Bible Schoolhouse is going to take us to another very important series of lessons which we will call, “THE IMPASSIBLE WALL”.
When God created Adam & Eve and placed them in the perfect environment of the Garden of Eden, they had wonderful fellowship together. However, God does not create robots, so He gave them a free-will, or decider, so they could choose whether or not they would be obedient to Him.
One day their decider went negative, and they disobeyed God's command that they were not to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Several things happened immediately! They died spiritually, which meant they were unable to have fellowship with God, they received a Sin Nature, and they were driven from the Garden of Eden.
God cannot have fellowship with sinful man, so He set up a wall between Himself and mankind. Man could neither climb over that wall nor tear it down, but God removed it, boulder by boulder, when His Son, Jesus Christ paid the penalty for sin when He died on the cross more than two thousand years ago.
Don't be frightened away because some of the words we will be using in our lessons are difficult! You need to learn new words in order to build a vocabulary so you will be able to think more clearly! You can't do that if you are content to just use simple phrases and words that you hear every day.
The Bible calls the removal of the Impassible Wall, RECONCILIATION. In 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, God explains that when we become Christians by believing in Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we become AMBASSADORS FOR JESUS CHRIST. That means the Christian represents Jesus Christ to people with whom he comes into contact in his daily life.
At the moment of physical birth, Adam's sin nature is given to each one of us. The only exception is Jesus Christ in true humanity, because He had no human father. God, the Holy Spirit was His father.
The Old Sin Nature is passed down to us through Adam, because he deliberately sinned. Oh yes, Eve also sinned, but she was deceived by Satan when he told her that she would be as smart as God if she ate of the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden.
Nothing that comes from our Old Sin Nature is pleasing or acceptable to God. He certainly is never pleased with our sins, but neither does he accept the human good which also comes from the same source.
We will see all of these truths explained from the scriptures as we study the lessons in this series, so LET'S GET STARTED.
THE IMPASSIBLE WALL
LESSON 1
Before we begin our study of the Impassible Wall, let's name our known sins to the Lord so that we may learn the things He has for us to understand.
The principal for naming or admitting known sins is found in I John 1:9 as follows: "IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.
If you have personally believed in Jesus Christ, you are a Christian. As a Christian, you are also an AMBASSADOR FOR JESUS CHRIST.
To help us understand what it means to be an ambassador, let's compare the Christian as an ambassador to one who is appointed by the United States of America to represent our government to another country. Certain things are provided for the ambassador, and he is expected to abide by orders given to him at the time of his appointment.
1. An ambassador does not appoint himself.
a. A believer is appointed by the Lord
2. An ambassador does not support himself.
a. God provides all of the ambassador's needs. (Philippians 4:19)
3. An ambassador does not belong to the country where he is sent.
a. The believer is not of this world, but his home is heaven.
4. An ambassador has written instructions.
a. The believer has the Word of God in writing
5. If an ambassador is recalled, it is because war has been declared between the two nations.
a. When believers in the Church Age are taken up into heaven at the "rapture" (resurrection) of the Church, hostility will begin on earth, and that will be the beginning of the Tribulation period on the earth.
6. An ambassador doesn't take an insult as personal. God takes care of His Word and His Name when they are spoken against. We are not here to defend God's Word, only to declare it! God the Holy Spirit takes care of those details.
7. The ambassador does not enter a foreign country for his own personal interests or advantage. Instead, he represents the country that sent him as an ambassador.
a. As believers and ambassadors for Jesus Christ, we are to honor Him. We must be ready to speak, and then the Lord will provide the listeners. (1 Peter 3:15)
b. We must study God's word so that we will be ready at all times to answer those who ask why we can be so sure we have eternal life.
(John 10:28) "I GIVE UNTO THEM ETERNAL LIFE, AND THEY SHALL NEVER
PERISH: NEITHER SHALL ANY MAN PLUCK THEM OUT OF MY HAND."
There is no higher calling than to have the privilege of being an ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our message to unbelievers is to tell them that sin is not an issue between God and man, because all sin was paid for and judged when Jesus Christ died on the cross.
